Remember when we used to just eat food?
Now there's vegetarian, vegan, paleo, keto, blah-blah-blah-o! So what's the "best" diet?
Would that it were that simple. But let me try to break it down for you as best I can. What I'm saying here is based on the latest research....which has actually been going on for quite a while.
All the science points to the enormous benefits of fresh fruits and vegetables....with an emphasis on the vegetables. (That's because there's more sugar in fruit.) The nutrients in veggies have so many health benefits that it would take a VERY long post for me to get through all of them, so let's just put it this way:
Eat your veggies!!
The more colorful the veggies, the higher the health benefit. Bright reds and greens and oranges and yellows and purples......just look for those colors and you'll have a plate full of health.
If you're suffering from any kind of health challenge, then consider a nutrient-dense, plant-based diet. Does this mean vegetarian or vegan? Well.....basically it means vegan.....BUT -- don't despair! It doesn't mean that you'll have to give up everything you love.
Start by reducing your consumption of meat. Red meat. And pork...even though they market that as "the other white meat." And consider reducing your intake of poultry and fish to only 2-3 days a week. You can do that. Think pasta (preferably made with lentils or quinoa). Think stir-fry made with tofu and veggies.....use a little bit of sesame oil and soy sauce to perk up that tofu. Think lentil soup with veggies instead of sausage.
There are tons of recipes available on the web. I found this one for a salad dressing that looks yummy:
