When you’re busy - and who isn't these days? - it’s easy to think that tackling that next thing on your to-do list is more important than relaxing.
But face it - it’s harder to take care of those things — or the people in your life — if you don’t take care of yourself first. And isn't more energy and more patience something you could use a little more of right now?
So how do you relax with the holiday season barreling down on you, and a to-do list that stretches from here to the day after next week?
Try one or more of these:
Take 3-4 deep breaths, filling and expanding your belly as you breathe in, and exhaling through your mouth with a sigh. Deep breathing can settle your mind and shift your emotions very quickly, because if you're focused on your breath, you're spending time right in this moment - not worried about the future or re-hashing the past.
Your mind is an incredibly powerful tool. You can learn to use it to
Even if you only have 5 minutes, you can change your mood and your stress levels. By focusing on your breath and being aware of the thoughts that pass through your mind, you can lower your stress levels dramatically. I spoke about breathing above, but being aware of your thoughts is important too. It's said that thoughts are like clouds, passing across a blue sky. Your mind, however, is the blue sky. Instead of focusing on the clouds, just let them drift across that solid sea of blue, and let that blue hold your attention.
SOUND HEALING AND QIGONG
Sound has been used since.....forever!.....to heal. The ancient Chinese and Egyptians used it, and to this day people all over the world find sound to be a powerful way to overcome physical, mental and emotional challenges. Qigong is an ancient form of movement and concentration which is practiced daily by thousands of people to maintain their health, as well as to overcome illness.
Even better - how about the combo special? I call it Roots and Wings Healing Qigong. By combining movement, visualization and sound, I've used the best of the science of stress reduction (which combines all of the methods I just mentioned) and created a gentle, simple practice that has a powerful ability to relax the mind and heal the body/mind.
